Blast Studio by Blast

The Blast Studio is a brand new online and real time art installation allowing you to dabble in your own creativity. It’s been designed to give you an opportunity to explore the creative artist within you and add your mark to a unique art installation that will be created together over the next four weeks.

Housed in the Topolski studio at London's Southbank Centre, this great new initiative lets you take control of four machines. Each machine will provide you with the tools to remotely control how you paint and design this space. Control from a choice of a cool glue gun, paint pellet machine, printer or hanging light strips all directed from your computer.

The Studio is live everyday between 12pm and 12am, from 12th May till 9th June. SoA+D supports construction of Portable School

The Portable School, a pilot project for children of migrant construction workers in Thailand, is presently under its second phase which is the construction of the classroom. Its beginning phase was primarily set for the design of the school in the first semester 2008 Studio. Constructed between SoA+D building and IT building, the structure is made of bamboo purchased from Prachanburi, Thailand.

Once the school is built, it will be brought to Samut Prakan by mid-March in order to begin the next phase of the mission. The completion of the construction has been looked forward to by its proponents- the Centre of Architecture and Human Rights (CAHR), KMUTT architecture students and Yumiko Kan, a volunteer student from the Development and Emergency Practice Program at Oxford Brookes University. More so, the project is funded by the Architect’s Association of Alberta, Building and Woodworkers’ International and The Lighthouse Club of Bangkok.

In particular, the emergence of the program is based on the need to address some of education and health problems which confront the migrant workers. Ajarn Graeme Bristol, Executive Director of CAHR and presently one of the best professors in SoA+D, KMUTT, is working on this socio-civic scheme. By his active involvement in the community, he sets an example how architects can make a difference in a dynamic society. ออกแบบเพื่อผู้สูงอายุ

“ออกแบบเพื่อผู้สูงอายุ” โอกาสอันท้าทายของนักออกแบบในอนาคต

หากได้มีโอกาสชมนิทรรศการ “อจีรังคือโอกาส (Perishable Beauty)” ที่ TCDC กำลังจัดแสดงจนถึงวันที่ 22 กุมภาพันธ์นี้ คงช่วยจุดประกายความคิดในการสร้างโอกาสทางธุรกิจ โดยนำหลักความจริงที่ว่า “ทุกอย่างล้วนอยู่ภายใต้การเปลี่ยนแปลง” มาเป็นโจทย์ให้ขบคิดแก้ไข

“ความอจีรัง” ที่จะมีผลต่อการกำหนดวิถีชีวิต โครงสร้างประชากรโลก และรูปแบบของสังคมมนุษย์มากที่สุดก็คือ “อายุขัย” ของคนเรานั่นเอง มนุษย์ยุคปัจจุบันอายุยืนขึ้นด้วยความก้าวหน้าของเทคโนโลยีทางการแพทย์และ เภสัชกรรมสมัยใหม่ ทั้งในช่วงร้อยปีที่ผ่านมา จำนวนประชากรโลกได้เพิ่มสูงขึ้นมาก เฉพาะในประเทศไทยปัจจุบันมีประชากรราว 63 ล้านคน เมื่อเทียบกับเพียง 12 ล้านคนเมื่อปี พ.ศ. 2475 ซึ่งลักษณะโครงสร้างของอายุประชากรเปลี่ยนจากผู้ที่มีอายุน้อยเป็นผู้สูงวัย รวมทั้งยังพบว่าจำนวนประชากรในเมืองเพิ่มมากขึ้นกว่าในชนบทอย่างมาก โดยประชากรวัยเด็กหรือผู้ที่มีอายุน้อยกว่า 14 ปี ได้ลดจำนวนลงเหลือ 20% ของจำนวนประชากรทั้งหมด ขณะที่ผู้สูงวัยหรืออายุ 60 ปีขึ้นไปเพิ่มจำนวนขึ้นอย่างรวดเร็วในช่วง 10 ปีที่ผ่านมานี้ โดยมีจำนวนมากกว่า 20% จากเดิมที่เคยมีอยู่เพียง 5%

กองทัพผู้สูงวัยบุกในอีก 10 ปี
จากการวิจัยของสถาบันประชากรศาสตร์พบว่า จำนวนประชากรไทยมีอัตราเพิ่มขึ้นประมาณ 0.5% ต่อปี ขณะที่จำนวนผู้สูงอายุมีอัตราเพิ่มขึ้น 3% ต่อปี และในปีพ.ศ. 2563-2564 หรืออีกประมาณ 11 ปี จำนวนผู้สูงอายุจะมากกว่าเด็กเป็น ครั้งแรกในประวัติศาสตร์ด้านโครงสร้างประชากรไทย และคาดกันว่าใน 30 ปีข้างหน้าหรือราวปี พ.ศ. 2580 จำนวนผู้สูงอายุจะมีถึง 25.9% ของจำนวนประชากรทั้งหมดที่มีราว 62.8 ล้านคน โดยมีเพศหญิงมากกว่าเพศชาย

นอก จากการอาศัยอยู่ในเมือง การแต่งงานช้าลง และสภาพเศรษฐกิจและสังคมที่ไม่เอื้อต่อการมีบุตรแล้วนั้น เทคโนโลยีสารสนเทศสมัยใหม่ยังเป็นอีกปัจจัยหนึ่งที่ทำให้ช่วงอายุของการทำ งานกว้างขึ้น สินค้าจำพวกความรู้และนวัตกรรมที่ต้องใช้สมองมากกว่ากำลังร่างกายก็เป็นที่ ต้องการของตลาด ผู้สูงอายุที่มีเงินออมหรือมีการวางแผนทางการเงินเมื่อยามเกษียณไว้เป็น อย่างดีจึงพึ่งพาตนเองได้ในเรื่องค่าใช้จ่าย แน่นอนว่าสังคมที่มีผู้สูงอายุมากย่อมทำให้รูปแบบการใช้ชีวิตของประชากร เปลี่ยนไป ด้วยข้อเท็จจริงที่ว่าผู้สูงอายุจะต้องดูแลและพึ่งพาตัวเองมากขึ้น สิ่งแวดล้อมในอนาคตจึงต้องเป็นสิ่งแวดล้อมที่ทำให้ชีวิตของผู้สูงอายุเหล่า นั้นง่ายขึ้น

ออกแบบเข้าใจผู้ใช้ = ออกแบบเพื่อผู้สูงวัย
กำลังวังชาที่ถดถอย สายตาที่พร่าเลือน และสังขารร่วงโรยอีกสารพัดที่ไม่มีใครอยากเผชิญแต่ก็หนีได้พ้น แม้ว่าวิทยาการทางการแพทย์จะสามารถฉุดรั้งความเต่งตึงหรือกระทั่งปลูกถ่าย อวัยวะต่างๆ ได้ แต่วันเวลาก็ย่อมนำพาเอาประสิทธิภาพย่อหย่อนของสังขารทั้งปวงมาอย่างปฏิเสธ ไม่ได้ ข้าวของเครื่องใช้ทุกชนิดจึงต้องออกแบบมาเพื่อช่วยแก้ไขปัญหาต่างๆ ให้กับผู้สูงวัย ทั้งที่เห็นอยู่ในปัจจุบัน เช่น รถแท็กซี่ของกรุงลอนดอนที่ออกแบบเพื่อให้ความสะดวกแก่คนสูงวัยและผู้พิการ ที่ใช้รถเข็น โปรแกรมคอมพิวเตอร์ที่มีเสียงเพื่อช่วยลดการใช้สายตาในการอ่าน โทรศัพท์มือถือที่ลดฟังก์ชั่นที่ไม่จำเป็นแต่เพิ่มขนาดของปุ่มและตัวอักษรบน หน้าจอ และการติดรีโมทคอนโทรลกับสวิทช์ไฟ และที่กำลังพัฒนาขึ้นเรื่อยๆ เช่น มีดปอกผลไม้ที่มีตัวล็อกสำหรับผู้ที่มือเริ่มสั่น ไปจนถึงหุ่นยนต์ที่ช่วยอุ้มผู้สูงอายุให้เดินทางได้สะดวก

ใน อนาคตอันใกล้นี้ เราจะได้เห็นสินค้าและบริการหลายประเภท ไม่ว่าจะเป็นบริการช็อปปิ้งส่วนบุคคลแบบรายเดือน เครื่องเตือนให้รับประทานยา หนังสือพิมพ์มีเสียง อุปกรณ์ไฟฟ้าหลากชนิดที่ควบคุมได้โดยรีโมทคอนโทรล และเครื่องอำนวยความสะดวกอีกสารพัดราวกับหลุดออกมาจากการ์ตูนเรื่องโดเรมอน ซึ่งชวนให้เรานึกถึงวันเวลาหน้าจอโทรทัศน์ที่เจ้าหุ่นยนต์แมวขวัญใจเด็กๆ หยิบของวิเศษออกมาจากกระเป๋าสามมิติ ผิดกันตรงที่ผู้ออกแบบอุปกรณ์เหล่านั้นไม่ใช่จินตนาการของ ดร. ฟูจิโกะ ฟูจิโอะ แต่เป็นการออกแบบจากมันสมองและสองมือของคุณเอง

The Music@TCDC (Audio-Visual Project)

From the distinguished characteristics of Thai music, which imposes no strict rules to performers, therefore allows them to freely express their feelings, sprouts a new musical creativity in which Thai style is combined with Western music. The fruits of this creation will be presented in our latest program, “Siamization: When the Modern World Sings Old Thai Songs” at Kiosk, Creative Space, TCDC.

Performance Schedule
23 May: Traditional & Conservative
Ancient music, performed with traditional Thai musical instruments and antique Western instruments, will be harmonized with synthesized music and create slow-paced modern melodies.

30 May: Short Performance
Short performances by various artists and musicians, who will join and jazz up the room with Thai contemporary music. The performances vary from Multimedia Composition, Dance Music in Thai Accent, silent film soundtrack, song of the spinning top, to a show called Material Connection.

6 June: SRM present Sombat Simla
Ajarn Sombat Simla is one of Thai famous Kaen (Thai pan flute) soloists, who has conducted his concert tour in every corner of the North Eastern Thailand and performed in several world jazz concerts. He will come here to give his solo performance and feature with the electronic band, Sticky Rice Music.

13 June: An Evening with Bruce Gaston
Enjoy piano serenade by Bruce Gaston, with the evening’s highlight, piano solo “Ar Noo”, performed for the first time in Thailand. The piece was co-arranged by Bruce Gaston and Kru Boonyong Ketkong, deceased National Artist of Thailand.

20 June: TicTacToe & Chroma Music
Musical innovative creations, including the transformation of contemporary dance gestures (Budo) into rhythms and melodies by a computer program, as well as XO game dual between Thai and Western music, with Mr. Computer as the judge.

27 June: Sweet Saimai
Saimai Band will enchant the evening with their musical performance, which harmoniously combines vocal, classical guitar and Thai traditional instruments.

เพราะดนตรีคือศิลปะ จึงไม่ได้จำกัดเพียงแค่ทำให้เครื่องดนตรีเปล่งเสียง Siamization Experimental Forum จึงเป็นเวทีที่เปิดโอกาสให้คุณสัมผัสโลกทัศน์ใหม่กับพาเหรดการแสดงดนตรีเชิง ศิลปะขนาดสั้น ชมความน่าอัศจรรย์ของดนตรีไทยที่สามารถทำงานกับสื่อผสมร่วมสมัยหลากหลายรูป แบบแบบจากนักดนตรีและนักแสดงหลากหลายวง อาทิ ดนตรีจากลูกข่าง ดนตรีประกอบหนังเงียบ Dance Music สำเนียงไทย Multimedia Composition จากนักประพันธ์และนักทดลองด้านเสียงจากหลากสำนัก รวมทั้งการแสดงชื่อว่า Material Connection

ว่ากันว่า แทบไม่เคยมีการแสดงครั้งใดที่อาจารย์สมบัติ สิมหล้าจะทำให้ผู้ชมอยู่นิ่งเฉยได้ นักเดี่ยวแคนแห่งมหาสารคาม และอาจารย์แคนแห่งวิทยาลัยดุริยางคศิลป์ มหาวิทยาลัยมหิดล ผู้ผ่านการโชว์ฝีมือจนเป็นที่ยอมรับมาแล้วอย่างโชกโชนทั่วแคว้นแดนอีสาน ทั้งยังเคยร่วมงานในฐานะนักเดี่ยวแคนกับอาจารย์บรูซ แกสตัน และดวลกับนักดนตรีแจ๊ซระดับโลกอย่างแอบราฮัม ลาโบเรียล

ใน การแสดงครั้งนี้ อาจารย์สมบัติจะมาบรรเลงบทเพลงแคนในลายดั้งเดิมแท้ๆ และบทเพลงร่วมสมัยที่คุณต้องรู้จักในสไตล์เดี่ยวโซโล และอย่าพลาดชมการปะทะกันครั้งแรกระหว่าง “แคน” กับดนตรีเท่ห์ร่วมสมัยอย่างดนตรีอิเลคโทรนิคจากทีมงานค่ายดนตรี Sticky Rice Music

สยามาภิวัฒน์ดนตรีไทย ในสายตา บรู๊ซ แกสตัน
การบรรเลงเปียโนโดย อาจารย์ บรู๊ซ แกสตัน ผู้สร้างวง “ฟองน้ำ” ผู้จุดความเคลื่อนไหวให้ดนตรีไทยร่วมสมัย ที่จะพรมนิ้วสร้างเสียงดนตรีผ่านแกรนด์เปียโนให้คุณประทับใจไปกับบทเพลงที่ ทั้งร่วมสมัยและร่วมวัฒนธรรมกับโลกดนตรีสากล

การ แสดงที่พิเศษสุดในครั้งนี้ คือการแสดงบทเพลงเดี่ยวเปียโน “อาหนู” ซึ่งเป็นผลงานการเรียบเรียงโดย อาจารย์บรูซ แกสตัน ร่วมกับ ครูบุญยงค์ เกตุคง ศิลปินแห่งชาติผู้ล่วงลับ เป็นครั้งแรกในประเทศไทย หลังจากที่เคยสร้างความประทับใจให้กับวงการดนตรีนานาชาติมาแล้วจากการบรรเลง ในงานครบรอบ 70 ปี ของคีตกวี John Cage

เกมส์ OX ดนตรีไทยท้าดวลดนตรีสาก
ปรากฏการณ์ครั้งแรกของดนตรีจากสองซีกโลก ที่ดนตรีไทยและดนตรีสากลจะมาท้าดวลกันบนเวทีเดียวกันด้วยกติกาของเกมส์ OX โดยมีคอมพิวเตอร์เป็นผู้ตัดสินคะแนน ตามด้วย การสร้างสรรค์ดนตรีจากกระบวนการใหม่ที่แปลงท่วงท่าร่ายรำร่วมสมัย (บูโด) ให้กลายเป็นเสียงดนตรีด้วยคอมพิวเตอร์

ความประทับใจจากดนตรีไทยในมิติของป๊อบ กับบทเพลงไทยเดิมที่จะถูกนำมาขับขานและบรรเลงในสไตล์แบบสบาย จากการผสมผสานกันระหว่างกีต้าร์คลาสสิค เครื่องดนตรีไทยพร้อมด้วยเสียงร้องหวานใสของนักร้องสาวจากวงสายไหม
